Tutor: David Armes
About the course:
David Armes spent summer 2015 travelling across the US visiting letterpress studios, printmakers and colleges on a Fellowship from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. Starting in Portland, Oregon, he traced a route eastwards via Iowa, the twin cities, Chicago, the Hamilton Wood Type Museum in Wisconsin, Detroit, New York state, Boston, Washington DC, finally finishing in Baltimore, Maryland, 11 weeks and over 25 studios later. Along the way he met fine artists, lifetime jobbing printers, Linotype operators, DIY punkers and a 71 year-old letterpress teacher with a collection of over a thousand platen presses. Join us as David recounts the many stories he uncovered about the vibrant American letterpress scene.
Please note that the price for tickets is £5 if booked in advance and £10 on the door.
