Introduction To Print #1
Starting: Saturday 1st April 2017
Ending: Sunday 2nd April 2017
From: 11:00 am to 5:00 pm
Tutor: Jeni Nuttall
About the course:
Bring your sketches to life in print through monoprinting and drypoint. On the Saturday you will be shown how to roll out ink in perfect consistency and trace monoprint, moving across to different inks to add colour and build your images.
This can be quite freehand or more graphic. It’s up to you and your style of working. Building up prints in multi-colours and learning to perfect the roll-up and how much or how few incidental marks you want to see in your picture it will open a new way of working and a freedom of expression.
You will go on to work in painterly monoprint painting with inks mixed with white spirit onto a ‘plate’ and printing them using our lovely etching presses. This gives a different look to the more linear monoprinting.
On the Sunday you will be introduced to drypoint, scratching a plate with a wide array of drypoint tools and other sharp tools and bringing different mark-making together. The magic of inking and wiping can be used to creative effect leaving a strong tonal element or wiping more cleanly for a sharper image. You can build up the image with more marks. You will even be shown how to let loose with a Dremmel electric engraving tool.
This course is ideal for those new to printmaking and a great introduction to Hot Bed Press.
