and we raised £1,600, of which around 50% goes to Hot Bed Press and 50% to the artists. We will be buying some lovely equipment for the workshop including a large spindle roller which will help our members and course goers large relief prints and roll-overs for etching. We will also be getting some more benching and tools.

With new faces and some familiar book artists returning again it was a great chance to talk to the artists. The talks/mini-lectures by Benedict Phillips were an inspiration to others. Demonstrations on marbling by Sue Shaw and letterpress by Kathryn Cleverley were another great addition and had quite a crowd gather.

This year the University of Salford worked with ourselves and MMU to put on a symposium of Photography and the Artists’ Book. With a distinctly international flavour with delegates from around the world it was a brilliant day, and gave all those present plenty of food for thought. It was fantastic to see book arts spoken about and debated as an academic subject and a revered and challenging artistic practice.

I hope that we can all build on this event next year and bring book arts further into the public realm.
