Hot Bed Press is introducing artists’ demonstrations to show exciting methods and new approaches to printmaking. Get a taste for something new and open your eyes to a different way of working. The artists will demonstrate their methods of working and inspire you with examples of work. These will undoubtedly be lively and intriguing evenings.

These demonstrations are ‘Pay on the Door’ events.
They cannot be booked in advance.

    Devoré Print

    (masterclass demo)

    Artist: Kiran Williams

    Tuesday 8th November
    7.00pm – 8.30pm

This is a process where part of a fabric is burned away (or devoured). A design can be screen-printed or paste can be applied freehand. Once dry it is then ironed or baked. The paste burns the fibres and when they are rubbed out of the fabric it leaves thin areas, creating a different tonal effect. It may be thought of almost as etching on fabric.

Cost £10.00 to non-members / £5.00 to Hot Bed Press members

    Vaseline Etch

    (masterclass demo)

    Artist: Martin Kochany

    Tuesday 6th December
    7.00pm – 8.30pm

This process has been developed by Martin as a unique method of achieving a subtle soft ground aquatint, giving expressive painterly tone in a simple and immediate manner. You will also be shown how to screen the Vaseline to get a photographic quality, experiment with lift grounds and layer up the image.

Cost £10.00 to non-members / £5.00 to Hot Bed Press members

Last years event saw 43 stands showing artists’ books, zines and the works of small publishers from all around the UK all mingling alongside each other and the many visitors were able to see a performance by Carson & Miller as well as buying beautiful works direct from the artists and makers.

This year, the second year Hot Bed Press will be working with MMU to run the event, we aim to make it bigger and better with up to 50 stands including a zine annex off the main hall. There will also be workshops and demonstrations for all to enjoy and participate in. The gallery can accommodate between 40 and 50 tables, available on a first come first served basis. The tables will measure 6’ x 2’3” and be provided with two chairs and a tablecloth. Fixing to the walls is not allowed; it is therefore recommended that if you need extra display systems these are situated on the table tops.

Hot Bed Press are delighted to be re-introducing the age-old tradition of The Wayzgoose on Saturday 30th April & Sunday 1st May, between 11.00am – 5.00pm.

It’s a great opportunity to bring friends and family to the workshop and give them an insight into the world and wares of the printmaker. We would love you to visit and share in what promises to be a great weekend.

Also running at Hot Bed Press that weekend will be Unravel. Free of charge and open to all, from young children and families to experienced film veterans! Unravel aims to turn the viewer into the maker of the work in a literal ‘hands-on’ way. The event will be an entertaining, informative and inspiring introduction to film making, providing an informal setting for people to interact with each other as much as the project.

Click here to find out more about unravel, and of course, we’ll send you a reminder about the Wayzgoose on the week running up to the exhibition.
