    Dear All,

Happy New Year from us all at Hot Bed Press.

I am pleased to announce a new programme of courses out today and starting on Monday 6th February. We are not getting married, but we do have something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. (I will leave you to decide as to which courses fit those descriptions).

We have already had a lot of enquiries for courses so expect a good turnout once again.

Please feel free to pass on to anyone you know or post any courses on your social networks etc.

    All the very best!

    Sean Rorke
    Artistic Director

    Dear All…

Christmas is around the corner and we are now closed until Thursday 5th January. We would like to take the opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support over the past 12 months. We have continued to grow and, in the current climate, to be running 50 courses a year whilst increasing membership and seeing continued regular usage of the facilities, we have to be proud of our achievements.

Thanks to all those who have come in as members, attended courses and supported our exhibitions. A big THANK YOU to all those who volunteer and keep the workshop running and members supported, and also to the Board of Directors who give up their time, energy and experience to help oversee the organisation and plan the future.

Also following on from the success of the Demonstrations/talks, (if you came to the Devore or Vaseline Etch talks you will know that they are a great insight), we will be running demonstrations/talks in Altered Books, 19th Century Photographic Printing, and Monoprinting. Once again they will be pay on the door and a concession of just £5.00 for members. More on these in the New Year.

In fact more details on all our courses will be out from Thursday 5th January and we are hoping for the usual flurry of bookings. Don’t forget that Members get to see the course list before it is publicly released which is just another great reason to join.

We hope to see you all in the New Year. Your membership and support helps us to be one of the largest print workshops in the UK. We aim to continue to offer a friendly and supportive facility for printmakers and to spread the good word of printmaking far and wide….. with your help!

Best wishes for the festive season.

Hot Bed Press is introducing artists’ demonstrations to show exciting methods and new approaches to printmaking. Get a taste for something new and open your eyes to a different way of working. The artists will demonstrate their methods of working and inspire you with examples of work. These will undoubtedly be lively and intriguing evenings.

These demonstrations are ‘Pay on the Door’ events.
They cannot be booked in advance.

    Devoré Print

    (masterclass demo)

    Artist: Kiran Williams

    Tuesday 8th November
    7.00pm – 8.30pm

This is a process where part of a fabric is burned away (or devoured). A design can be screen-printed or paste can be applied freehand. Once dry it is then ironed or baked. The paste burns the fibres and when they are rubbed out of the fabric it leaves thin areas, creating a different tonal effect. It may be thought of almost as etching on fabric.

Cost £10.00 to non-members / £5.00 to Hot Bed Press members

    Vaseline Etch

    (masterclass demo)

    Artist: Martin Kochany

    Tuesday 6th December
    7.00pm – 8.30pm

This process has been developed by Martin as a unique method of achieving a subtle soft ground aquatint, giving expressive painterly tone in a simple and immediate manner. You will also be shown how to screen the Vaseline to get a photographic quality, experiment with lift grounds and layer up the image.

Cost £10.00 to non-members / £5.00 to Hot Bed Press members

The first 3 workshops are already full, but we do still have places available on some of our forthcoming workshops.

Places are still up for grabs on Mezzotint, End Papers and The Art of Etching & we are pleased to announce a 2nd Poster Printing workshop running on Wednesday evenings from the 9th – 30th November.

If you are into tonal drawing or like the idea of working images out from a velvety black background then mezzotint is the workshop for you. A centuries old technique and beautiful way of producing images of high chiaroscuro suggesting the drama and light of Caravaggio it’s an rare opportunity to learn this inspiring technique.  For contemporary ‘mezzotinting’ at it’s highest level look at the work of Chuck Close.

Please call or email the studio as soon as possible to secure your place.
