We are really pleased that the year has got off to a flying start with Kim Bevan, our latest artist-in-residence selected from last year’s Manchester Artists’ Book Fair. Kim is just finding her feet and will be working with us around her regular teaching and other commitments. The residency is an opporunity for an artist to take advantage of free access to our lovley facilities with added support and technical advice along the way. Kim has been inducted in our screenprinting and will also be looking to work with etching and letterpress and incorporating print, (and embossing), into her beautiful book works. Kim will be with us for 6 months, (usually on Mondays and/or Wednesdays).
Kim creates artwork that responds to her interest in human nature, language, conversations and the everyday. Her work varies, from work which incorporates personal experiences, messages or poems to visual pieces using cut work and photography.
Rebecca Jones, our 2013 book artist-in-residence is also continuing her project of screenprinting a language/code for music. See her website for a broad ouline/overview of her art work.
We are also really pleased to have Christa Bruggenkamp here with us as an internship. Christa is studying Art & Economics at The University of Art, Utrecht and will be with us for 6 months for 5 days a week. She is helping us with lots of admin based work and looking specifically at helping out our marketing and publicity and to learn about the machinations and behind the scenes organisation of Hot Bed Press. She is looking forward to getting her teeth into major projects here.
This is just one of 3 or 4 placements that will be taking place here this year which is going to help us greatly over our big year of development; our 20th anniversary. More on these to come.
